Most memorable Edgewood College experience:

My most memorable experience at Edgewood was my orientation. I was a little nervous to be going off to college, but once I got on campus the nervousness melted away. I liked how there were fun activities going on constantly, and you were always meeting new people (new students, returning students, faculty, staff, etc.).

Favorite building or event on campus:

My favorite event to be a part of for our incoming students is Admitted Student Day. On Admitted Student Day, prospective students get to attend classes and special sessions as an Edgewood College student. This is my favorite event because I love to see how excited everyone is to try out the classes first hand.

I think all of the buildings on campus are great, but my all-time favorite place on campus is actually our boardwalk, which goes out onto Lake Wingra. It is a great, relaxing and scenic view that you access right on the campus.

Favorite thing to do in Madison:

The great thing about being in Madison is that there is always something going on. I like going to the Farmers Market, trying out new restaurants, going to a show at the Overture Center, or just taking walks through the zoo or one of the gorgeous gardens we have in the city.

Fun fact:

In my spare time I like playing volleyball, kayaking, traveling, reading or baking.

Most memorable Edgewood College experience:

As an Edgewood College student, I was able to get involved in many different student organizations. Getting involved was key in my success at Edgewood. My most memorable experience however was creating and leading and Alternative Break trip to my home country, Guatemala. Being able to serve with my peers, aligns with our mission of being a community of learners committed to building a just and compassionate world.

Favorite building or event on campus:

My favorite event throughout the year is definitely orientation. As a student, I was an orientation leader for three years in a row and a peer leader for two years. Coming to college is a really exciting time, and it is always so much fun to see the enthusiasm all of the students bring. There are many fun activities and great conversations that happen during those four days.

Favorite thing to do in Madison:

I really like going to the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. I also really enjoy going to the different ethnic restaurants around the city; there is always a new place to try! Some of my favorites include Taqueria Guadalajara, Sala Thai and Chez Nanou.

Fun fact:

I took a year off in between high school and college to study abroad in Poitiers, France for a year through the Rotary Youth Exchange program. It was a great experience to meet other exchange students from around the world and see different countries!

Most memorable Edgewood College experience:

One of the things I enjoy most about being an admissions counselor at Edgewood College is that I get to share all of the amazing experiences I had when I was a student here with prospective students. One particularly impactful experience I had was getting to play on the soccer team. Having the opportunity continue playing the sport I love at a competitive level was incredible. Beyond being an absolute blast and getting to say I was an NCAA athlete, it was a great way to stay in shape, hone in on some invaluable life-skills, and make lifelong friends I still keep in touch with today.

Favorite building or event on campus:

I was a Biology major, so I definitely found a lot of value in my participation at “Edgewood Engaged,” an annual research and creative inquiry symposium where students can showcase the research and/or creative projects they’ve been working on. With the guidance of my professors, I conducted research on two different projects related to medical science in my time as an undergrad, starting the summer before my sophomore year. I was fortunate enough to get to present my work both locally and nationally. This gave me the first-hand experience to connect my learning, beliefs, and actions, offering a perspective that has really helped me in life after college.

Favorite thing to do in Madison:

Between the many outdoor recreational activities like biking and sailing, a widespread appreciation for music and art, the abundance of amazing cuisine, and the eclectic culture of the city as a whole, I feel like I can always find something to do. My favorite thing to do though would be checking out the live music scene. I’m a big fan of pretty much all kinds of music, and Madison always delivers with some great shows. We frequently have famous musicians perform at one of the many awesome venues downtown, and there’s actually some great local talent to check out at a coffee shop or the Capitol Square as well.

Fun fact:

I never thought I would say this growing up, but I love to travel. I think this change of heart all stemmed from my experience studying abroad at Edgewood, where I was lucky enough to spend about two weeks in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I don’t think would have been possible without the careful and ambitious planning of my professors, who accompanied me and my classmates on the trip. During this trip we snorkeled with penguins, sea turtles, and tropical fish on a daily basis, hiked through rainforests and up a dormant volcano, and had plenty of time to explore Quito, Ecuador’s capital city. Ever since that trip to the Galapagos, I’ve really caught the travel bug. In the past couple of years, I’ve traveled to London, Paris, New York City, Yellowstone, and New Orleans, and I have plans to make trips to Boston, California, and China in the near future.
