Halloween is somewhat of a hallmark of Madison. There are all kinds of crazy things happening around town from haunted houses, costume hunting, pumpkin carving, corn mazes, and the historic Freakfest in downtown Madison. Freakfest is an event that happens on State Street every Halloween. The three separate stages hosted the rapper Mac Miller, Kids These Days, Big Gigantic, Prof, Nobody Beats the Drum, Roster McCabe, Gentlemen Hall, Kyle & Keem, OYE!, A.N.T., and The Lately. Over 33,000 people attended this year. They also have a judging of the best Halloween costumes. It’s always fun to dress up and see the costumes that people wear around town.
This year I dressed up as a Hefty trash bag, gGiven my last name, and helped with the Edgewood Residence Life Advisory Board’s “Trick or Treating in the Edgewood Residence Halls” event. It was a great event where neighborhood kids, and some of the campus school kids came and went trick or treating in all of the lounges in Edgewood’s residence halls. Residents and RAs decorated their lounges a few days beforehand to make things a little more festive! This also helped get everyone into the Halloween spirit. There were about a total of about 60 dressed up trick or treaters. This even was really fun and a great way for Edgewood to give back to the community, and all the residents in the halls seemed to enjoy the opportunity to hand out (and eat) some candy!
