The Boardwalk
By: Meggie

Out of all the wonderful locations on the Edgewood campus, I can easily say the boardwalk is my favorite. Located along the length of our campus right on the shoreline of Lake Wingra, the boardwalk has beautiful views. From one side of the lake, you are able to see downtown Madison and the Henry Vilas Park and Zoo, and on the other side of the lake you can see the Arboretum. When the weather is nice, the boardwalk is one of my favorite places to study, relax, or hang out with friends. Lake Wingra is a small lake, so it is always very calm and peaceful. Fall is especially one of my favorite times to enjoy the boardwalk because of all the beautiful fall colors.
During the late spring through the early fall, you will often see people out enjoying the lake in sailboats, canoes, kayaks, and many other boats. The Wingra Boathouse is located just a five minutes’ walk from the Edgewood campus. This is very conveniently located for Edgewood students, and another bonus is that Edgewood students can rent boats from the Wingra Boathouse for free with their Edgewood ID! Going kayaking on Lake Wingra is one of my favorite things to do in the spring, summer, and fall. Prices for boat rentals vary from $12 to $30 an hour, so this is a great way to take advantage of the free resources provided to us as Edgewood College students!
Edgewood College’s boardwalk is just one of the many great locations on campus to study and relax. Because the college is so conveniently located on Lake Wingra, students are provided with a lot of opportunities to get out and enjoy this beautiful part of Madison. I encourage all of you to visit the boardwalk next time you are on campus and enjoy the views!
